VOSD has been involved in tropical rainforest program from 1990 in the coastal chars and waterlogged areas, because, those areas are high disaster prone and riverain, where river erosions and land collapsing is very common due to cyclones, tornados, excessive rainfalls, storms, droughts, high speeded air blows, tidal bores, surges and over floods etc. which destroy the natural resources, human lives, livestock, fisheries and lands etc. So, VOSD has been planting different kinds of tree plants, spices, endanger spices, rain trees, fruit trees, etc. in the common places, open places, khas lands, embankments, road sides, riversides, char areas, high lands etc. and also developed many nutrition gardens, horticulture gardens, nurseries, spice gardens, planted grasses etc. to prevent river erosions, land collapsing, natural disasters, and protecting high blows of cyclones and tidal bores with the help of Swiss Development Corporation (SDC), Government Forestry Departments, DAE/World Bank, KATALYST/SIDA, CIDA/DAE, CDMP/UNDP/DFID, FAO/EU, FAO/Govt. AH-Germany, APHD-Thailand, CARE-Bangladesh etc. So far, it has planted approximately 2500,000 trees, which have become now big trees, developed 367 nurseries, 600 horticulture gardens, 14530 nutrition gardens, and 57 small forests with the help of the beneficiaries, who are getting sufficient benefits and also those have prevented land collapsing, river erosions, tidal bores, high speed waves, cyclones etc. Still VOSD has been continuing tree plantation program with the help of the developed nurseries, because, every year approximately 1500,000 plants are growing the people are planting those saplings, because, they have realized the benefits of tree plantations in their fallow lands and homesteads. Especially rain trees are planted by the rivers, embankments, sea sides, WAPDA dams, char areas and coastal areas, which are saving the human lives, livestock, fisheries, and other resources of the char and coastal people. They are getting nutritious foodstuffs, fuel woods, fuel leaves, fruits etc. supplies from those trees, even they are earning incomes by selling furniture woods, fruits, planks, fuel woods, etc. So, the people have become very happy with the rainforests and have become interested to plant trees in their homesteads, fallow lands, roadsides, embankment sides, river sides, sea sides etc. which are enriching the natural resources, balancing environment and preventing disasters.
