VOSD Technical Training Institution, renowned for its commitment to community upliftment, held a certificate‑giving ceremony on July 19 to honor the latest cohort of illiterate village women and few men who successfully completed its short course in sewing operations. Since its inception in 2021, the program has been instrumental in equipping hundreds of women with marketable skills, enabling them to secure sustainable livelihoods and rise above the poverty line.

The event was graced by Mr. Rabindra Lal Barua, Executive Director of VOSD, as chief guest, who lauded the institution’s efforts. “This initiative not only imparts technical know‑how but also instills confidence and a sense of independence in these women. Their journey from learners to earners is a testament to what targeted skill development can achieve”, Mr. Barua remarked.

Mr. Mahadeb Das, Regional Coordinator of VOSD, attended as special guest and underscored the broader social impact: “When we invest in the education and empowerment of illiterate women, we transform entire families and communities. These graduates will now be able to contribute to household incomes, educate their children, and bolster local economies.”

Twenty‑five women received certificates, each having mastered the fundamentals of sewing machine operation, pattern cutting, and basic garment finishing. Among the graduates was 32‑year‑old woman of Barishal District, who shared, “Before this course, I had no formal education and struggled to provide for my family. Now, with these skills, I’ve already secured a part‑time tailoring assignment and my self‑esteem has soared.”

VOSD Technical Training Institution plans to launch its next session in October, expanding its curriculum to include embroidery and garment quality control. Interested participants may register at the institution’s campus in Barishal or via the VOSD regional offices. With continued support from VOSD leadership and regional coordinators, VOSD remains dedicated to breaking cycles of poverty through practical, accessible vocational training.
