Voluntary Organization for Social Development (VOSD) is a National NGO, established in 1987. It is permitted to work all over Bangladesh. Main aim is to promote the socio-economic and cultural status of the rural & urban poor and disadvantaged people, emphasizing the women, disabled and children through concretization, capacity building, institution build and capital formation as well as imparting felt-need based problem solving programs. It believes in non-directive, bottom up, integrated and participatory development framework and works as a catalyst with its targeted people.
So far, it has covered 10,500 villages of 914 Unions under 137 Upazilas in 35 Districts. VOSD strategies are with the philosophy of alleviation of poverty and empowerment of the targeted people. It came into being through the grim struggle of a band of dedicated, landless leaders and number of energetic young social workers. It has dedicated 9577 staffs and volunteers to derive away poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition.
VOSD has been working for last 36 years in the field of education, training, water & sanitation, agriculture, fisheries, livestock, micro-credit, health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, socio-economic development & disaster management.

VOSD awarded for contribution to Health, Nutrition, Education, Social Services, special contribution in Relief and Rehabilitation and Sanitation services which are as follows :

  • Sadinata Sangsad Award-2006 for Education Services.
  • Journalist Association Award-2006 for Socio-economic Development.
  • National Youth Culture Organization Award-2007 for Health & Education.
  • Index Kagoj-Kalam Business Award-2007 for Social Welfare.
  • Sritir SIDR-2008 by Amtali Press Club for Special Contribution in Relief and Rehabilitation Programs.

Vision

Established and empowered people, especially the poor and vulnerable community in an environmentally sound, judge full and harmonic society and integrated sustainable development in the main stream of National development and poverty alleviation.

Mission

To establish the poor and vulnerable people, especially the women in the society through making them capable, self-sufficient, self-governed and self-initiators through building capacity, institution, capital utilization of local resources and imparting felt-need based problem solving programs involving necessary skilled, trained and experienced staff.

Goal

Promoting the socio-economic status of the rural poor and under privileged people, emphasizing the women children, environment and also empowerment through undertaking appropriate and sustainable programs.

Organizational Management

The General Council (GC) of VOSD consists of 21 members. Among them 7 members are elected to form the Executive Committee (EC) for 2 years. The EC meets quarterly to approve and review quarterly plans, budgets, expenditures, progresses and makes policy decisions. The Executive Director materializes the decisions through his staffs.

Program / Area Coverage

VOSD has at present 16 Projects with the activities: awareness raising, training (capacity building and professional kills development), Health, Education, Nutrition, Agriculture, Fisheries, livestock, environment development and climate change prevention, Micro-Credit, Disaster management, Relief and Rehabilitation, Research, poverty alleviation, arsenic mitigation etc. and those are being carried out among the poor and marginalized especially women & children in 137 Upazilas.
